More on Ben:
Ben Yelkin was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré Syndrome on December 16, 2012 and was immediately hospitalized. Ben’s peripheral nervous system quickly shut down. He was no longer able to move and developed paralysis that took over his entire body. As his immune system began to shut down, he developed a severe case of pneumonia and sepsis. His lungs were weakened and he was no longer able to breathe on his own. Under high sedation, Ben was put on a ventilator. Through Ben’s month long hospital stay in ICU thus far he has gone through many ups and downs. Ben currently has Autonomic Dysreflexia caused by GBS. Ben’s road to recovery will be a very long road but he is ready for the fight. Before Ben got sick he was very active in running, golf, and basketball. Ben has a wife Sarah and a son Logan (19 months old). Ben is anxious to fight a full recovery of Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome so that he can continue to help educate others of this rare and severe disease.
