Susan Dean’s also a CIDP fighter like you!

Read Susan Dean’s blog on her journery to a healthy life with CIDP, from Moscow, Russia here: http://hsctforcidpnmsnad.blogspot.ru.

Here is a short extract from her latest post…

I am transformed! In numerous ways I will never be the same as I was only months ago. It is that way when we risk, when we travel, when we seek our own healthy future, and when we look deeply at the cultures that, together, make up our world.

I am so grateful for each of my transformations while here, the greatest being a whole new immune system within, which gives me my future planning and life back. And is a gift also to my family and friends whose lives have been impacted by having an ‘ill’ member within the ranks. It’s hard on everyone. It challenges all. It robs the entire family of an essential life force within their own lives, and isn’t fair to anyone.

We stumbled across this on the internet today: Running down GBS

Give Ben Yelkin your support for his 5km run and gold event: http://runningdowngbs.com/

More on Ben:
Ben Yelkin was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré Syndrome on December 16, 2012 and was immediately hospitalized. Ben’s peripheral nervous system quickly shut down. He was no longer able to move and developed paralysis that took over his entire body. As his immune system began to shut down, he developed a severe case of pneumonia and sepsis. His lungs were weakened and he was no longer able to breathe on his own. Under high sedation, Ben was put on a ventilator. Through Ben’s month long hospital stay in ICU thus far he has gone through many ups and downs. Ben currently has Autonomic Dysreflexia caused by GBS. Ben’s road to recovery will be a very long road but he is ready for the fight. Before Ben got sick he was very active in running, golf, and basketball. Ben has a wife Sarah and a son Logan (19 months old). Ben is anxious to fight a full recovery of Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome so that he can continue to help educate others of this rare and severe disease.

Bed Number Ten by Sue Baier

An editorial review from rom Publishers Weekly on this book:
A Houston housewife, mother of two teenage daughters, Baier endured a virtual living death when she contracted Guillain-Barre syndrome. Suddenly and without apparent cause, her body was entirely immobilized; meanwhile her mind remained alert and her nervous system lost none of its sensitivity to pain. At first able to communicate only by moving her eyelids and laboriously “spelling” key words, she slowly improved until she was released from the hospital and returned home. Herefive years after the trauma, which has left her handicappedshe thanks her husband, family and members of her church and community for the support that compensated for bouts of depression and the occasional callousness of hospital personnel. Baier’s chronicle of courage offers hope to victims of the catastrophic disease.
